About us

Saving Sumter's Strays was founded in 2016 with the sole purpose of vamping up the rescue program at Sumter Animal Control. Our volunteer-based organization is the bridge between the shelter and a happy ending.

Our primary focus is helping the animals that find themselves in our local, over-crowded open-intake animal control shelter. Our program has grown and evolved in the past couple of years. In addition to rescue networking, we are now responsible for the adoption program at the shelter, as well as providing medical care and other supplies to enhance the care of the animals while they stay at the shelter.

Our volunteers spend countless hours walking, socializing, transporting, and fostering these precious animals until rescue placement or the right family comes along. It's a labor of love that we are passionate about. If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, please send us a message.

Cofounders of SSS

We have been friends and lived with our families in Sumter, SC since 1995. Our love for dogs and an empty nest caused us to seek volunteer work at the Sumter Animal Control in 2013. It all started as a few hours a week walking dogs and cleaning kennels. Seeing a great need for a better way to save the adoptable dogs from the euthanasia list we formed Saving Sumter’s Strays in 2016. We have found our passion with this labor of love and are overjoyed when homeless dogs are rescued and find families to love them.
